Almost untouched natural surroundings in the Hohe Tauern National Park, an original landscape and plenty of sporting adventures – that is summer here with us in the ‘Valley of Huts’. And this epithet did not come about by chance. After all, there are over 40 Alpine pastures around Grossarl that are tended and which you can get to on foot or by bike.
Hiking in Grossarl
250 kilometres of very well signposted hiking paths are open to you in Grossarltal in the Salzburgerland – ranging from a leisurely stroll in the valley to a multi-day mountain tour. Rock climbing in Grossarl
For all mountaineers and hikers who are aiming for the summits during their active holiday, there are lots of tours in Grossarltal – ranging from grassy mountains that are easy to hike on, to challenging high mountain tours. At the head of the valley in Hüttschlag there are also two via ferratas. Give the Gletschergoass practice via ferrata route a try to get some initial experience.
The team from Berg - Gesund welcome you to their taster climbing session every week, which incidentally is free of charge for you as a guest staying in the Tauernhof. Experienced climbing on the Kupfergeist via ferrata, which has a difficulty level of D-E, over the impressive Hüttschlager Wand.
Hotel at the cable car
The valley station for the Panoramabahn is just 300 metres from the hiking hotel Tauernhof. In just a few minutes its gondola lifts take you up to a lofty 1840 metres. This saves you an initial climb and once you get to the top, there are various hiking tours to choose from – ranging from an easy stroll to a challenging summit hike. Cycling in the Salzburgerland
Pleasure-oriented cyclists are very well catered for in Grossarltal. The valley cycle path spanning some eight kilometres from Grossarl into the National Park village of Hüttschlag is particularly suitable for leisurely cycle tours with all the family. After a brief section along the country road, the cycle path proceeds direct too the traffic-free head of the valley from Hüttschlag, continuing to the picturesque Ötzlsee.
Mountain biking in Grossarl
16 signposted mountain bike routes, spanning a total of over 140 kilometres are available for you to explore by mountain bike or e-mountain bike. You decide whether you prefer your route to be leisurely, challenging or geared towards training goals. The interactive map makes choosing very easy. Incidentally: Even if you don’t have your own bike with you, nothing stands in the way of you enjoying a spontaneous cycle excursion. Just hire a bike from our partner, Sport 2000 – we have all the information for you at the reception.
